Dr Xu Yanping is a locally trained eye specialist with more than 10 years’ experience as an eye specialist and is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist.

Dr Xu graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and was awarded the distinguished Best House Officer award in 2010 which is awarded to the best intern across all house officers for the year and recognises her hard work and dedication towards her patients.

She completed her specialty training in Ophthalmology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital of the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute, before further subspecialising in glaucoma management and surgery. She worked as a consultant in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital as one of the lead glaucoma doctors and is currently still a visiting glaucoma consultant to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Dr Xu is humbled to be one of only few glaucoma specialists to have completed more than 3 years of advanced glaucoma training fellowships across 4 different hospitals both locally and internationally, having trained at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and the Singapore National Eye Centre in Singapore, as well as the Royal Perth Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospitals in Australia, and the privilege of training under world-renowned glaucoma specialists at these centres.

As part of her extensive training, Dr Xu is very experienced in cataract surgery and managing complex cataracts. She has undergone specialised training in a diverse range of glaucoma surgeries including trabeculectomy, glaucoma filtration devices such as Ahmed, Baervedlt and Molteno tubes and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). She also performs adjunctive laser procedures such as Micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation, laser peripheral iridotomy and selective laser trabeculoplasty in the management of glaucoma patients.

Apart from this, Dr Xu is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and manages all conditions for all ages. From age-related macular degeneration in older patients to common eye conditions in children and myopia control with Atropine therapy. Being a mother to 2 children, she has ensured that her clinic is both child and family friendly to provide a welcoming environment for all patients.

In her time in the public sector, Dr Xu’s passion has always been in educating the future generations of doctors. She was Director of undergraduate education for Ophthalmology where she practiced, and was awarded the Dean’s Excellence Award by NUS, recognising her dedication to teaching. She was also an MBBS examiner for Ophthalmology and a clinical tutor for both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore as well as the Lee Kong Chien School of Medicine at the Nanyang Technological University.

Throughout her career, Dr Xu has endeavoured to not just deliver the best clinical care to her patients, but to treat them all with the patience and respect they deserve. And many of those who have been previously treated or are still being treated by her, would attest to that. It is with this principle that she wanted to start her practice in the northern suburbs of Singapore – To be able to better reach out to the surrounding community, to deliver eye care of the highest quality, while forging strong relationships with all residents.

Dr Xu is fluent in English, Mandarin, Teochew and Malay.
